India vs Bangladesh, Kanpur Test: The Indian team is currently playing two Test matches against Bangladesh at home, winning the first match by 280 runs. The second and final Test match of the series between India and Bangladesh will be played on September 27 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
The history of this stadium is quite impressive. Spinners have always dominated here. This cannot happen whenever the Kanpur Stadium is talked about without mentioning Indian off-spinner Jasu Patel. Jasu Patel was the bowler who single-handedly led Australia to their first Test victory.
Jaisu Patel gives India historic win
If we look back at history, it took India 12 years (1947 to 1959) to beat Australia in a Test match for the first time. During this period, India lost seven of the first nine Tests against Australia but tasted victory in the 10th Test.
Team India, led by GS Ramachandra, achieved a historic victory in the Kanpur Test match (December 19-24, 1959). Jasu Patel showed his talent in that game. On the first day of the match (December 20), Jasu took 9 wickets one by one on the turning pitch of Green Park.
As a result, Australia, captained by Richie Benaud, was reduced to 219 runs. Five of the nine batsmen dismissed by Jasu were dismissed. Two players are out LBW. And one of them was caught by Jasu Patel himself.
Kumble beats Jasu Patel’s record
Jasu Patel has the best bowling record in India’s Test history with 35.5 overs, 16 maidens, 69 runs, and 9 wickets. For the next 40 years, his record remained intact. Leg-spinner Anil Kumble broke Jasu’s record by taking all 10 wickets against Pakistan in 1999.
Kamble wreaked havoc with his bowling in one Test match innings against Pakistan and took all 10 wickets. Talking about taking 9 wickets in a match for India, before Jasu, Subhash Gupte had taken 9 wickets against West Indies at Kanpur in 1958 (34.3- 11-102-9).

Jasu Patel also took 5 wickets (55 runs) in Australia’s second innings of the Kanpur Test. Australia were reduced to 105 runs in pursuit of a target of 225 runs. Jasu became the first Indian bowler to take 14 wickets (124 runs) in Tests.
His record was broken in 1988 when Narendra Hirwani scored 16 runs in the Madras Test match against West Indies at that time, scoring 136 runs. With Jasu’s stellar performance, India won the Kanpur Test by 119 runs, although Australia later won the Test series 2-1.

Only got the chance to play 7 test matches
Prior to the Kanpur Test, Jashu Patel had not played a Test for three years. This meant that he was included in the team as an ace. This also proved to be Jasu’s last series. After the Kanpur Test, he played two more Tests. Overall, Jasu took 29 wickets in 7 Tests. When Jiasu was a child, he fell from a tree and broke his hand. So his bowling action is a little “different”. Jasu passed away in 1992 at the age of 68.
