A rural department official in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia on Thursday said a survey would soon be conducted at a school where around 100 students, including 70 girls, have to wade through a pond to reach the facility.

District Panchayat Chief Officer Kamlesh Bhargava said that all efforts will be made to reduce the problem in the school at Taga Nareta.

Students and parents said water from the nearby canal fills the pond, leaving these students with no option but to wade or swim in the water during monsoon.

“An application has been received regarding canal water falling into the pond. An engineer had gone to the site. A survey will be conducted soon to address the problem,” Bhargava said.

School principal Laxman Kumar Paikra told PTI that he had approached elected representatives to build a bridge over the pond but so far his efforts have been in vain.

Crossing the pond is scary but there is no option, said Rishika Bhatt, a student of the school, which is part of the Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM Shri), which is tasked with exemplary implementation of the NEP.

Nandini Pal, another student, said there are snakes in the pond, adding that the lack of a bridge may force many people to abandon their studies.

The school has 224 students, 100 students from Nareta village had to face difficulties like crossing the pond and sitting in the class while getting wet.
