In a crucial two-day visit to Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meetings with BJP leaders, interacted with students and inaugurated development projects across the state. The visit comes months ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, with Modi also paying tribute to the martyrs of Assam and underlining the Centre’s focus on infrastructure, connectivity and youth engagement in the northeast.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of a ₹10,601 crore brownfield ammonia-urea plant in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. On Saturday, the Prime Minister visited the party headquarters in Guwahati’s Bashistha to interact with party workers and senior leaders, in a move widely seen as preparation for next year’s assembly elections. “Visit Assam BJP head office and exchange views with party colleagues. Discuss matters related to ways to deepen the bond between our party and the public and work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the public,” Modi wrote on Twitter.
PM Modi unveiled an 80-foot statue of Assam’s first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi outside the new terminal of Guwahati’s popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on the first day of his visit. “This new terminal will boost the local economy as well as tourism. While emphasizing technological innovation, establishing a connection with nature and transportation is also highly commendable,” Modi wrote on Twitter.
