Patna, Nov 3 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a sharp dig at Grand Alliance’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav and questioned why he looked “ashamed” of taking his father’s name.
While addressing a huge rally in Katihar, the Prime Minister said that the people of Bihar understand politics more than speaking.
Without directly naming former Union minister and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, PM Modi said, “Look at the posters of RJD and Congress. A leader who was the chief minister for many years and brought jungle raj here – his picture has either disappeared or is printed in a small corner. It is not visible even through binoculars.”
“His entire family is contesting elections, then why is he not visible? Why is he ashamed of taking his father’s name? What are he hiding from the people of Bihar?” The Prime Minister asked.
PM Modi also hit out at the RJD-Congress alliance for what he called “appeasement politics” and its alleged support to infiltrators in Katihar and surrounding districts.
He said, “The first right on the country’s resources belongs to the people of Bihar and the country. I will not allow anyone to snatch this right. But RJD and Congress like kattas (country-made pistols) and fanatics (fanatics). Whenever BJP and NDA talk about removing infiltrators, they come out to defend them.”
He accused the Indian faction of succumbing to pressure from fundamentalist elements, pointing to the opposition to the triple talaq law and the alleged move to repeal the new Waqf Act passed by Parliament.
PM Modi said, “The truth is that they have surrendered to fundamentalist forces. Therefore, I urge you to keep RJD and Congress thousands of miles away from power in Bihar.”
The Prime Minister’s remarks assume significance as Katihar district, not far from the Bangladesh border, is part of Seemanchal, which has a large Muslim population and is considered influential in determining election results in districts like Kishanganj, Purnia and Araria.
PM Modi appealed to voters in Katihar to extend full support to the NDA candidates in all constituencies in the region.
Earlier, he addressed another election rally in Saharsa, where he also advocated development and stability under the NDA government.
