Imran Khan's wife files case in Pakistan's high court against declaration of her home as sub-jail

She pleads court to stay notification declaring her home a sub-jail

Islamabad:

The wife of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the authorities’ move to declare her residence as a sub-jail and demanded her transfer to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, citing “Potential security issues.”

Last week, an accountability court sentenced the couple to 14 years in prison in the Toshakana corruption case, with Bushra Bibi, 49, being held at Mr Khan’s Bani Gala residence.

She filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against declaring her Banigara residence as a sub-jail and instead shifting her to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Mr Khan was also imprisoned there.

“News International” said, “At the request of the superintendent of Adiala prison, the authorities have declared the Banigala residence as a ‘sub-jail’ to house the former first lady.”

Khan and Bushra were each sentenced to 14 years in prison when Accountability Court Judge Mohammed Bashir handed down his verdict in a case involving the illegal sale of state gifts, the so-called Toshakana corruption case.

The court also disqualified the former prime minister from holding public office for 10 years and fined the couple 1.57 billion rupees (787 million rupees each).

The newspaper said Bushra said in the petition that like other political workers of PTI, she was ready and willing to be admitted “in the general jail of Adiala Jail and not in the sub-jail declared at her residence” Serve sentence.

The reason she gave was that she did not feel safe being held alone in the sub-jail due to “potential security issues”. “Although the petitioner is currently in good health, her insecurity has been exacerbated by the presence of unknown persons in her home and the government has declared her house a sub-jail,” International News reported, citing the petition. .”

She said the “special treatment” given to her violated the spirit of equality guaranteed by the constitution and was therefore discriminatory.

Therefore, the newspaper added that in the “interest of justice”, she pleaded with the court to stay the notification declaring her family jail sub-jail and shift her to Adiala jail.
