Hyderabad: Parts of Telangana are receiving heavy rains under the impact of severe cyclone Montha, which has crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Narasapur.

Heavy rains flooded low-lying areas and disrupted vehicular traffic in some areas.

Authorities in Khammam, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Suryapet and some other districts have declared holiday for educational institutions.

Roads were flooded due to overflowing drains, springs and water bodies, cutting off connectivity to villages in Nagarkurnool district bordering Andhra Pradesh.

Rain water entered a power substation at Pulicherla village in Nalgonda district, disrupting power supply in some villages of Peddapur mandal since Tuesday night.

Paddy was damaged in the agricultural market due to heavy rains in Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Uppunthala in Nagarkurnool district received the highest rainfall of 20.8 cm during the last 24 hours. Amrabad in the same district recorded 19.7 cm rainfall.

Theldevarali in the district recorded 18.5 cm rainfall, followed by Vetttur 18.3 cm, Ainol 17.8 cm, Padra 16.28 cm, Achampet 15.90 cm (all in Narmol district) and Yarmada 15.15 cm) and Yorm 15.15 cm.

More than 10 cm rainfall occurred in about 30 areas.

Hyderabad has been receiving moderate to heavy rain since Tuesday night. The main city and some areas on the outskirts received moderate rain since Wednesday morning.

Drivers faced problems during the morning rush hour due to water logging on roads in and around Hyderabad.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad is likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places with gusty winds (30-40 kmph). Fog/haze conditions are very likely to persist during morning/night hours.
