Jaipur, Oct 28 (IANS) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a yellow alert for 23 districts of Rajasthan, warning of storm, strong winds (20-40 kmph) and light to moderate rain in the next few days.

The alert covers the districts of Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Banswara, Pratapgarh, Baran, Kota, Jhalawar, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Dausa, Jaipur, Ajmer, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Rajsamand, Bundi, Tonk, Pali, Dungarpur, Sirohi, and Nagaur.

Officials have advised residents to take precautions during the storm – seek shelter indoors, avoid hiding under trees and wait for conditions to stabilize before resuming outdoor activities.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, severe cyclonic storm Montha is currently active over the Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Meanwhile, a depression persists over the central Arabian Sea, and a circulation system is present over northeastern Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Officials confirmed that southern and eastern parts of Rajasthan received heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours.

Highest rainfall of 130 PM was recorded in Nainwa (Bundi district).

Officials said there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Udaipur, Kota division and adjoining districts on Tuesday, while light to moderate rain with thunderstorm may occur in parts of Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Jodhpur divisions.

Rainfall activity is expected to reduce from October 29, however, light to moderate rain may continue over southern and south-eastern districts for the next 4-5 days. Border areas of western Rajasthan including Bikaner division and Shekhawati region are expected to remain dry during this period.
