According to the IMD bulletin, yellow alert (be careful) has been issued for cold wave conditions for Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti and Ranchi. Cold conditions are likely to persist in these districts till 8:30 am on Tuesday.
Kanke near Ranchi was the coldest place in the state at 2.5 degrees Celsius.
Apart from this, an alert has been issued for cold day conditions with dense fog in six districts including Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Hazaribagh and Koderma and dense fog in other six districts including Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj and Pakur.
The IMD bulletin said that visibility in these districts is likely to be between 50 to 200 metres. Dense fog is likely to persist in the above mentioned districts till 8:30 am on December 31.
Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s Deputy Director Abhishek Anand said, “North-westerly to westerly winds blowing in the lower troposphere level over Jharkhand are causing cold wave conditions.” According to the IMD bulletin, in the last 24 hours, Lohardaga recorded 3.7 degrees Celsius, Khunti recorded 4 degrees Celsius, while the mercury level in Daltonganj dropped to 6.1 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Ranchi was 6.2 degrees Celsius.
