Widespread rains and storms are expected over many areas of India by the end of the week (till November 2) due to the remnants of Cyclone Montha and a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea.

According to the latest bulletin of India Meteorological Department issued at 20:04 IST on October 30, widespread rainfall, storm and strong winds are likely to occur over many areas of the country in the coming days.

The weather office has predicted extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday, October 31. Heavy rainfall is also likely over East Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Konkan, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh, among others.

Delhi will remain partly cloudy

For Friday, the IMD had predicted partly cloudy sky with mist and light fog in the morning. The maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to be between 28-30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 20.1 degrees Celsius. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average AQI in Delhi at 9 am was recorded at 258 in the poor category.

Update on Cyclone Montha

By the evening of 30 October, multiple weather systems were affecting India. The remnants of Montha, now a well-marked low pressure area, were located over Central Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas after moving through Northeast Vidarbha, South Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.

It is estimated that this system will continue to move northwards over North Chhattisgarh and weaken into a normal low pressure area within the next 24 hours.

Concurrently, a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea was centered near 18.1°N latitude and 68.2°E longitude, about 390 km south-west of Veraval, 500 km west-southwest of Mumbai and 670 km west-northwest of Panjim. Moving slowly northwards at a speed of about 3 kmph, this depression is expected to move north-northwestwards into the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 36 hours.

Additionally, several persistent upper air cyclonic circulations were observed over South Haryana and adjoining Rajasthan, Southeast Assam and neighborhood and Gulf of Thailand. A fresh Western Disturbance is also expected to affect the Western Himalayan region from November 3, 2025.

Rain in eastern and central India

According to IMD, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at various places over eastern and central India till November 1. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on October 31 and November 1 and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till November 1. Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand are also likely to receive heavy rainfall on October 31, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Bihar, especially on Friday.

Specifically, isolated extremely heavy rainfall (21 cm or more) is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 31. Besides, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely over East India over the next two to three days, with moderate thunderstorm and lightning activity over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on October 31, as well as over Madhya Pradesh for the next few days.
