Hyderabad, Oct 10 (IANS) Hyderabad Police on Friday seized illegally stored firecrackers worth Rs 18 lakh and arrested a person in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the team of Commissioner Task Force, Eastern Zone, along with Afzalganj police, raided a warehouse in Siddambar Bazaar and caught a person who was illegally storing firecrackers in a residential complex and seized firecrackers of different brands worth Rs 18 lakh.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Andy Srinivas Rao, the arrested person was businessman Shyam Kumar Sugandhi, who was storing firecrackers illegally without any valid license from the concerned authorities and knowing that storing firecrackers in a residential area could cause serious damage to human life and property of the residents, if any untoward incident occurs.
Meanwhile, in view of the upcoming Diwali festival, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, K. Shilpavalli held a meeting with all the applicants and licensees of temporary firecracker shops in the area and stressed on strict compliance with safety norms under the Explosives Act, 1884 and Explosives Rules, 2008.
He said huge public presence is expected in the weekend leading up to the festival, and all license holders must ensure that fire, electricity and crowd safety measures are strictly followed.
Application for temporary cracker shop license must be submitted on or before October 15 with all required documents – including self-declaration, NOC from the Divisional Fire Officer, land permission from GHMC or competent authority, NOC or consent from the land owner (if private property), previous year’s license (if any), and a detailed site plan.
Only green crackers approved by PESO and permitted under Supreme Court guidelines can be sold. Central zone police will carry out regular inspections in coordination with fire services, GHMC and revenue officials. Any violation of the license conditions or Explosives Rules, 2008 will result in cancellation of the license and prosecution under relevant laws.
Earlier, Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar had made it clear that prior permission from the police is mandatory for a firecracker shop. He issued a notification in this regard.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police will issue licenses for temporary firecracker shops as per the prescribed guidelines. The notification said that any violation will attract penal provisions and other action as prescribed under the Act and rules.
