New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) After the United States refuted media reports that it has approved the sale of advanced AIM-120 air-to-air missiles to Pakistan, the Congress on Friday expressed concern and said even if the missiles are not being provided today, they could be provided tomorrow.
The US Embassy in India issued a statement earlier in the day calling the reports “false”. “No part of this referred contract amendment is intended to provide for the delivery of new Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan,” the clarification said.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi, speaking to IANS, said, “America has changed its sales rules. As per US law, it can give arms to some countries and not others. Pakistan has now been included in the list of countries to which arms can be given. If it is not giving missiles today, it will give tomorrow. This marks a major change in America’s foreign affairs and foreign policy.”
He further criticized the Indian government’s response, claiming, “Our Prime Minister is so cowed and cowed down in the face of President Trump that he does not have the courage to raise such issues. Whether Trump handcuffs our people, raises tariffs on Indian goods, raises visa prices, or even invites the Pakistani Army Chief for dinner, our Prime Minister continues to praise him. This is unfortunate.”
Alvi further expressed concern over the alleged suicide of Haryana IPS officer Puran Kumar, whose wife had claimed in a complaint that he had faced caste-based abuse and insults.
“His wife’s statement should be enough to open the eyes of the people of India and all political parties. This is heart-wrenching news. Under BJP governments, there is no respect for Dalits or Muslims. A Dalit was beaten to death in BJP-ruled Bareilly. In Delhi, directly under the control of Amit Shah, and now in Haryana, an IPS officer was taken to this extent due to caste-based insults. This is not just bad luck – this is the fault of BJP rule. The accounts are there,” Alvi said.
Alvi also reacted to the ongoing debate regarding firecrackers before Diwali. While the Supreme Court is hearing the case, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta recently suggested that at least green firecrackers should be allowed so that Delhiites can celebrate the festival.
Commenting on this, Alvi said, “Let the Supreme Court give any decision – the kind of government we have today and the way it puts pressure on every constitutional authority. Under BJP rule, people will not stop bursting crackers. Pollution will increase. I have been seeing this for a long time.”
Alvi also reacted to the incident where a lawyer allegedly tried to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, demanding immediate legal action.
He said, “Many people, including me, are saying that strict legal action should be taken against him. Even now, BJP members are sitting on TV channels defending this man and praising his actions. A BJP leader, who has also served as Director General of Police in Bhubaneswar, has praised his courage. In such an environment, this is unacceptable. Till now, not a single FIR has been registered.”
Responding to BSP chief Mayawati’s recent comments, in which she praised the Yogi Adityanath government for the maintenance of the Kanshi Ram memorial in Lucknow, while also attacking the Samajwadi Party, Alvi said, “I don’t know why Mayawati has praised the Yogi government. Is it because of the maintenance of the memorial? She knows very well that the Yogi government inflicted atrocities on Dalits and Muslims especially in Uttar Pradesh.” Is. Bulldozers have been used to demolish houses. Now only she will be able to tell why she has praised me.
