“If I put a little cut in the tariff …”: Donald Trump on Tikok Deal

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that China would have agreed to a deal on the sale of Tiktok if it was not for the tariff imposed by Washington on Beijing last week.

Trump on Friday extended the deadline to find a non-China buyer for Tikok or to face the ban in the United States, allowing 75 more days to find solutions a day after implementing additional 34 percent of duties on all Chinese imports.

“The report is that we had a deal, too much for Tikok, not a deal, but very close, and then China changed the deal due to tariff. If I gave a little cut in the tariff, they will approve the deal in 15 minutes, which shows you the power of tariff,” Trump told reporters in Air Force One.

The extremely popular video-sharing app, which has more than 170 million American users, is threatened by an American law passed last year, which orders Tikokkok to separate from his Chinese owner’s teachings or to be closed in the United States.

Trump had insisted that his administration was near a deal to find a buyer for Tikok and had to stop it from closing that many investors would be included, but gave some details.

Bidens, confirming that it was interacting with the US government to find a solution, warned that the “major matters” remained to be resolved.

The company said, “An agreement has not been executed” and whatever was decided will “be subject to approval under the Chinese law.”
