Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that if Ahom commander Lachit Barphukan and other rulers had not thwarted the aggression of the Mughals and other invaders, Assam would have been a part of Bangladesh and not India.

The main reason for Assam remaining a part of India is that the armies of many invaders from Khilji to Aurangzeb were defeated and sent back, Shah said while releasing the book ‘Bahadur of Assam – Lachit Barphukan’ here.

The book is written in English by eminent author Arup Kumar Dutta and has been translated into 23 scheduled languages.

He said, “There are many such stories of bravery and victory in the country which have not been properly evaluated by historians but now they are being given due recognition so that the next generation can be inspired.”

The minister also said, ‘Earlier, history was written and taught to us from the British perspective and there were only references to heroes who fought hard for ‘Swabhiman’ (self-respect) and ‘Samman’ (respect). Country,” he said.

Shah said the Assam government’s effort to get the book translated into 23 scheduled languages is indeed commendable and it will serve as a reference book for students and researchers who will learn more about them and the history of this part of the country. .

Referring to the title of the book, the minister said he had no complaint with its content but had reservations about the title because ‘Lachit is not the brave man of Assam alone but of the entire country.’

He was a commander who led his troops from the front, mastered the art of guerrilla and river warfare, who fought perhaps the greatest battle on a river and even his arch rival Ram Singh of the Mughal army. Praising him, Shah said that he is yet to fight against a soldier of Lachit’s stature.

‘Also, he (Lachit) was known for taking people from all communities as his soldiers and for killing his maternal uncle for laziness as well as his famous statement that his uncle was not above the country, goes down in history. Recorded as an exemplary display of courage. And bravery,” Shah said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s objective of launching ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was manifold and the primary goal was to raise awareness about the freedom struggle and bring to the fore the struggles of many people in different parts of the country. Played an important role in ensuring the independence of the country.

‘There are many knights and heroes in different parts of the country whose valor is not known outside their states, but we are committed to taking their life stories to each state so that it inspires the coming generation and the next 25 Inspire people over the years. Can help make India a leading country in the world,” Shah said.

He urged the youth to boost the collective confidence of the nation so that it can become ‘well-developed’ and ‘self-reliant’.

The Union minister further alleged that the Congress had created “divisions among the people of the region”, but the Prime Minister with his policy of development and peace in the North East has ensured that the people are united in taking the country towards the goal. Get the trust. To become the most developed country in the world.

He also appealed to the people that they should rise above differences of language and religion for the betterment of Assam and the North East.

‘Language should not be considered an issue of dispute but of strength.’ We should respect different languages, literature and grammar and make it the strength of the nation’, he said.

The publication of the book, written in English and translated into 23 languages, reflects the nation’s commitment to honor the strength and valor, Shah said.
