‘If all is normal, why stop us?’ SP MP BARQ block criticizes the government on Bareilly visit

New Delhi, 4 October (IANS) Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rehman Barak on Saturday questioned the Uttar Pradesh government’s move to stop the party’s delegation when he went to Bareilly amidst the ongoing controversies around the slogan of ‘I Love Muhammad’.

Burke, who was part of the delegation, strongly criticized the police for blocking his visit, called it undemocratic and unfair.

“When the police administration and the government in Bareilly are saying that everything is normal and there is no problem, then what do we understand by going there? We strongly oppose it and want to go there to meet the victim families and prepare an accurate report that can help them get justice,” Barak said.

The SP delegation, including MP Iqra Hassan, Mohibullah Nadvi, and Bark, who left the day before the residence of senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Harendra Singh Malik. He was working on the instructions of Mata Prasad Pandey, Leader of Opposition, allegedly disturbed by police action in Bareilly to meet the victims.

However, the deployment of heavy police blocked the team’s movement.

Speaking on development, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad said: “Unfortunately, at the behest of the BJP government, the delegation was stopped. The government is working in a way that cannot be imagined, preventing the delegation from increasing the right concerns. It is very correct as the ruling party, but the BJP government is trying to suppress this democratic rights.”

Earlier, SP MLA Atur Rahman echoed similar feelings, stating that his goal was to assess the ground reality and support those wrongly targeted people.

The dispute arises from recent incidents in Bareilly, where many youth were allegedly detained or questioned for slogans praising Prophet Muhammad. While the administration says that the situation is under control, opposition leaders have accused the state government of discontenting communal outlines and dissatisfaction.
