Sheriff William Eddy said at a news conference that police responded to reports of a shooting at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office around 2:30 p.m. local time on Friday. Multiple agencies responded and the suspected shooter is now deceased.
A police officer suffered an ear injury and two women were shot in the legs in a car near the county government building. Eddie said all three suffered “minor injuries.”
Eddy said the suspect was pronounced dead after an “officer-involved shooting” occurred in the lobby of the building at about 4:15 pm local time. He said the suspected attacker had “several guns.” No further information about the suspect has been released.
SWAT units were deployed to the area following the shooting.
The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office also said it had sent reinforcements to assist neighboring counties and asked people to stay away from the downtown area. Mineral County is located in northwestern Montana.
