talking to daily Mail, Joan Majadzelix, who was instrumental in exposing his crimes, said: “It’s a huge shock, but I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. I was always waiting for this phone call.”
“He was walking around with a target on his back from the very first day he entered the jail.
“I’m always afraid of him coming out and finding out about me or something, so this is a relief.”

since Watkins was jailed for nearly three decades in 2013Ms Mazzelix has suffered from PTSD and self-harm problems as a result of her relationship.
“I wanted him dead for a long time after what he did. I’m relieved, I feel like a burden has been lifted off my head,” she said.
“This is the second time someone has slit his throat. I expected it to have happened before. He’s been there for almost 13 years.”
In 2023, Watkins was held hostage by other inmates for several hours, causing injuries that were not life-threatening.

He said that his death might now allow “a new part of his life” to begin.
Ms Majadzelics and another man reported Watkins to authorities four times before his arrest, but were not believed.
She said, “The man I fell in love with never existed. He molested me and the man who died in jail today was a stranger to me. I never loved him, he was just a character.”
After admitting a series of sexual offences, including the attempted rape of a fan’s child, Watkins was jailed for 29 years with an additional six years on licence.
He was arrested following the execution of a drugs warrant at his Pontypridd home in September 2012, when a large number of computers, mobile phones and storage devices were seized.

Analysis of the device revealed Watkins’ corrupt behavior.
In 2014, he was told that he could not appeal against the length of the prison term due to the “shocking depravity” of his crimes.
He has now become one of the most high-profile prisoners to be killed inside the jail.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man at HMP Wakefield.
“Officers were called by prison staff at 9.39am this morning to reports of a serious assault on an inmate.
“A man aged 48 was found with serious injuries. Despite medical attention he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Two men, aged 25 and 43, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.
“Detectives from the Homicide and Major Investigation Team are investigating and inquiries are ongoing.”
