Srinagar, August 4: SpiceJet employee Mudsir Ahmed Khan, who was bedted by an army officer at Srinagar Airport last month, said that he was targeted to work honestly.
He demanded strict action against the attacker to prevent recurrence of such incidents. On July 26, four airline employees were attacked by Lieutenant Colonel RK Singh, when Khan asked the army officer on charges of paying for carrying additional cabin goods as per the criteria set by SpiceJet.
Khan told PTI video from his house in Srinagar, “I saw that the man was carrying two cabin bags and could be asked to stand on one side so that he could be weighed.
Khan said that he asked the army officer to pay for additional goods, but he misbehaved and abused him and other colleagues before turning violently.
“He hit me with a bag, he punched me and slapped me until my mouth and nose started bleeding. Then I fainted. Later I saw in the video that he was not allowing anyone to take me. He also attacked four employees,” he also attacked the injured man.
Khan said that he only stopped Lieutenant Colonel Singh as a part of his duty.
“Was I was wrong, it was a different story. The airline ticket clearly mentioned the luggage allowance for each passenger, however, the gentleman claimed that he did not know about it. I was only doing my work honestly,” he said.
He demanded that the wrong army officer be punished for his violent acts and said that “what happened to me can happen to anyone else. So he should definitely be punished for it.”
Police last week registered a case against Singh for allegedly attacking and injuring four employees of a private airline at Srinagar International Airport, causing Khan to fracture spinal cord.
On July 26, a case has been registered against Singh under Section 115 (voluntary injury) to assault SpiceJet airline employees after disagreeing on paying additional goods fees.
Lieutenant Colonel Singh has lodged a counter-complaint alleging an attack with the police, after which an FIR has also been lodged against the airline employees.
The officer, who is currently posted at the Army’s high -height Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg in Beramula district, was to ride a SpiceJet flight to Delhi after the incident.
When asked about the incident, army officials said that full cooperation is being extended to the officers.
The army is committed to maintaining the highest standards of discipline and conduct and takes all the allegations seriously, Public Relations Officer (Defense), Srinagar said in a statement.
The incident was caught on camera, and a video of the incident has surfaced on several social media platforms, showing the army officer with an iron stand, killing several airline employees.
The airline issued a detailed statement about the incident, stating that one of the four victims of the attack had suffered spinal injuries. He also said that it has started the process of keeping the passenger in the no-fly list according to the civil aviation rules.
“A passenger attacked four SpiceJet employees at the boarding gate of flight SG -386 from Srinagar to Delhi on July 26, 2025. Our staff members faced a spinal fracture and serious jaw injuries after attacking our staff members with panchs, repeated kicks and a queue stand.”
According to the airline, an employee fainted on the floor, but the passenger kept killing him and hitting him. “Another staff member faced bleeding from the nose and mouth, which after obtaining a tremendous kick to the jaw, bending down to help the colleague, who fainted.”
The airline said the passenger, a senior army officer, carrying two pieces of cabin luggage, weighing a total of 16 kg, more than double the permissible range of 7 kg.
The statement said, “When politely informed about additional goods and asked to pay the applicable fees, the passenger refused and entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding process – a clear violation of the aviation safety protocol. He returned to the gate by a CISF officer.”
The airline further stated that the passenger became increasingly aggressive at the gate. It cannot be immediately known whether the passenger was detained at the airport after the incident.
SpiceJet said that he has also written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, told him about the “deadly attack” on his employees and requested appropriate action against the passenger.
The airline also said that it has secured CCTV footage of the incident from airport officials and handed it over to the police.
Condemning any work of violence against its employees, SpiceJet said it would take the matter to its full legal and regulatory conclusion.
Army officials said the issue has come in the notice of the Indian Army and “we are waiting for the conclusion of pending investigation”. (PTI)
