As Stockholm shines outside, this majestic hotel – where details and luxury are embroidered in silk – is more than matched by its beauty, with lavish rooms, a superb restaurant (with one Michelin star), an extraordinary bar and soothing spa.

Cadier Bar serves cocktails under the supervision of Anton Vindmar, Sweden's Best Bartender 2024

Cadier Bar serves cocktails under the supervision of Anton Vindmar, Sweden’s Best Bartender 2024 ,Grand Hotel,

There’s no attempt to hide its opulence here – obviously, because it’s Stockholm’s Grand Dame, a lavish Second Empire-style hotel that turns 150 years old in 2024 – a tenure in which it’s played host to illustrious names ranging from Princess Grace and Prince Rainier of Monaco to Frank Sinatra and Martin Luther King Jr. Flags) is not unlike a watered-down Wes Anderson setting. Step inside, and you’ll find no whisper of Scandi-chic restraint – no blonde wood or minimalist palette. Instead, it’s all old-world glamour: gleaming crystal chandeliers, ornate cornices and rich velvet chairs. The spaces are surprisingly well lit – despite the grandeur, there is a warmth to the space.

Service

The service here strikes that elusive balance: graciously formal without ever feeling stiff. The staff at the door welcome you as if you’re a regular (even if it’s your first time) and, at the concierge desk, no request seems too elaborate or specific; I set specific expectations for a solo evening and twice received impeccably tailored suggestions, even down to which wine to pair with which main course. A service that not only meets expectations but also quietly and confidently anticipates them.

The rooms – there are 279 of them, plus 70 suites – are an extension of the public spaces: classic, large (with spectacular high ceilings), light, and with herringbone floors. Although they respect tradition, there is nothing that feels dated: the gray and dark blue colors on the duvet, armchair and headboard ensure smooth modernity without losing any elegance. All bathrooms are black and white marble, with Etro toiletries; All have showers, most with tubs. For the best views, choose a west-facing room looking across the water and towards the Royal Palace – especially at sunset, or when the city is soft with snow.

Nine individually designed signature suites, each a special space. The views are spectacular, and the inside has a quirky, contemporary edge, with exposed wood beams and brass accents.

Food and Drink

Seafood Gastro has a Michelin star

Seafood Gastro has a Michelin star ,Grand Hotel,

There is no dearth of places to eat and drink in the huge hotel. Top billing goes to the two restaurants overseen by acclaimed Swedish chef Mathias Dahlgren, known for his innovative approach to Nordic cuisine. Seafood Gastro, which has one Michelin star, is a dining room designed with elegant Scandinavian minimalism where tasting menus celebrate the diversity of seafood; The season dictates the dishes, but you might find razor clams with smoky cream, turbot grilled over embers, or lightly seared langoustines. Their second outpost is Matbaren – which means “food bar” – and it’s a casual but no less sophisticated bistro, where Dahlgren plays with spicy flavours. Steamed cod with cockles in potato and leek cream is given bracing lift from horseradish and richness from pancetta; Haute eats the hot dog – think pork sausage with mustard emulsion, deep-fried sauerkraut and truffle – it’s a regularly changing way to start a meal.

Top-class mixology can be found at the Cadier Bar (named after Regis Cadier, French chef and hotel founder), which features oak-paneled walls, plush lavender seating and gilded details centered around a long, gleaming bar. In charge of the adventurous, creative cocktail list is bar manager, Anton Vindmar, who has been named Sweden’s Best Bartender in 2024. “The Metalcaster” is a blend of gin, sea buckthorn, rosemary, sweet vermouth and a bright punch of chilli clarified through milk; For some florals, “The Gardener” is a blend of vodka and herbal liqueurs with mint, coriander, white raisins and lemon verbena – all easy to drink, with flavors that linger on the tongue.

Guests have breakfast on the veranda, where large glass windows offer views of the coast. It’s an impressive buffet spread, including refined meats and cheeses, fresh fruits and a range of hot options. Coffee and tea are delivered to your table instantly. Highlights are Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam, followed by a cinnamon bun or two – enough to keep you satiated even after lunch.
