Pricing and Plans: How much does CyberGhost cost?
While CyberGhost is one of the most affordable VPN providers out there, I’m not a big fan of its pricing structure. The provider has changed its subscription options over the years and now offers three plans in the UK when subscribing via the web. A one-month subscription plan is still available, costing £10.89 per month, but it is far more expensive than longer-term options.
In the UK, you have a few options. The six-month plan costs £37.14, which works out to about £6.19 per month. The two-year plan, which includes an additional two months free, costs £49.92 to start with, which breaks down to around £1.92 per month.
While the two-year plan offers excellent value for long-term use, the high cost of the one-month plan and the lack of flexibility with the mid-range plan is a bit disappointing. VPN speeds and reliability can change over time, and committing to a long subscription may not be suitable for everyone. If you subscribe via the mobile or Mac app, you’ll only get the option of a monthly plan, which costs £8.99 on iOS and Android – cheaper than the web’s one-month option, but still pricier than multi-month plans.
Luckily, CyberGhost offers a 45-day money-back guarantee on both its six-month and two-year plans, giving you plenty of time to decide if it’s a good fit. There’s also a seven-day free trial available through the app, so you can test it out before committing to anything long-term. If you subscribe to the one-month plan, you only get a 14-day money-back guarantee.
Although CyberGhost is quite affordable, other providers offer better value, bundling additional security features at no extra cost. For example, NordVPN and Surfshark include antivirus protection and a password manager as part of their standard subscriptions. While CyberGhost offers a security suite – including Intego antivirus software, a privacy guard to block ad tracking on Windows, and a software updater to keep your apps running – it’ll cost you £1 per month if you have a two-year plan, and you won’t be able to get it on Mac, iOS or Android.
CyberGhost got rid of their paid password manager in late 2022, so you won’t get that benefit anymore either. However, you can still choose to purchase a dedicated IP address with your VPN plan. This will cost an additional £2.25 per month if you subscribe to the two-year plan, or £3.50 per month if you choose the six-month plan. A dedicated IP address acts like a reserved parking spot – it’s exclusively yours, meaning it’s less likely to be flagged as suspicious by the websites you visit.
Fortunately, with the exception of dedicated IP addresses, the security suite isn’t really worth it. Intego is owned by CyberGhost’s parent company, Cape, a developer famous for creating cheap adware and sticky browser toolbars. Better and free security suite options can easily be found elsewhere.
Privacy and Features of CyberGhost
CyberGhost has all the basic security features you’d expect from a good VPN, but little else. It uses AES-256 encryption – the same level of security trusted by banks and the military – so I knew my data would stay private. It also supports multiple protocols, including WireGuard and OpenVPN, with WireGuard being the default. It’s fast and efficient, and there would be no real reason to if I didn’t need to test the speed of its other protocols.
The automatic kill switch is always on and does its job quietly in the background. If the VPN connection drops, it immediately cuts off your Internet traffic, so nothing is leaked. Split tunneling is another useful feature, which lets you choose which apps or websites bypass the VPN. This is great for accessing banking or local services, while also protecting everything else. That said, split tunneling (or exception on PC) is only available on Android or Windows, which seems a bit disappointing for Mac and iOS users.
In fact, much of this is frustrating for Mac and iOS users. While you still get access to streaming-focused servers, which are labeled by platform (such as BBC iPlayer and optimized for ITV), Windows users get more specialized options, like gaming-specific servers and peer-to-peer (P2P) specific servers. CyberGhost’s NoSpy servers are also easier to detect on Windows compared to other devices.
Based in Romania and wholly owned by CyberGhost, its no-spy servers eliminate third-party involvement and deliver fast speeds. If you want to access them on a Mac or mobile device, you need to search for Romania in the servers list, then click the arrow to expand and select NoSpy Servers from there. It’s all a bit strange.
Its streaming-optimized servers are a highlight, and the NoSpy servers are a nice touch for privacy-conscious users, but other than that, it’s a pretty straightforward VPN. Features like ad-blocking and malware protection, which it offers through DNS filtering, are helpful but not as strong as dedicated cybersecurity tools, and if you’re looking for advanced features like multi-hop, Onion over VPN, or other more premium extras, you won’t find them here. That said, it’s a good choice for Windows users and anyone looking for a no-nonsense VPN for streaming abroad.
cyberghost logging
When you browse the Internet without a VPN, your ISP tracks everything you do – for example, which sites you visit, how much time you spend on them, and even what type of device you’re using. A VPN hides this activity from your ISP, but it doesn’t make it disappear completely. Instead, your VPN provider is the one who can see your online activity, which is why it’s important to have a no-log policy.
CyberGhost has a zero-logs policy and is based in Romania, a country that has consistently opposed EU data retention laws. It publishes transparency reports every three months, which detail (among other things) unsuccessful attempts by law enforcement agencies to force VPNs to hand over user data.
Additionally, in 2022 and 2024, the company has independent audits conducted by Deloitte. These audits verified that CyberGhost followed its no-logs policy and does not store identifiable user data. Romania is also not a member of the international comprehensive surveillance agreement between intelligence agencies around the world, the 14 Eye Alliance, as it sounds. VPNs based in countries outside the jurisdiction of these intelligence agencies are prized by privacy advocates.
CyberGhost performance and speed
CyberGhost is a fast VPN, but before I go into detail about its performance and speed, let’s look at how its server list is divided – this is one of the best and most convenient features of the VPN (if you’re a Windows user, that is).
You can categorize servers by country where they’re located as usual, but the sidebar menu has options to list servers based on how suitable they are for certain tasks. You might look at low-latency servers ideal for gaming, VPN servers built for fast torrenting speeds, or a subset of no-spy servers. Not just Windows, all devices get access to CyberGhost’s servers optimized for streaming entertainment.
CyberGhost’s servers are tagged with the specific streaming platforms they work best with, making it easy to find one suitable for Prime Video, Netflix, Now TV, Crunchyroll, or even Hulu. There is a server for almost every major streaming service around the world.
CyberGhost is generally quick, with only a small impact on download and upload speeds and reliable performance in most locations. However, as per my latest test in October 2025 there has been some decline. When connecting to a UK server, speeds typically dropped by about 10-20 percent, which was not noticeable while streaming or browsing. Connections to servers in the US were slow, with speeds dropping by about 20-25 percent, but there was still enough bandwidth for HD streaming and large downloads.
CyberGhost’s Android and iOS apps compared
CyberGhost’s mobile apps are easy to use, but they’re pretty barebones in terms of features. The app has a clean interface that isn’t overly overwhelming, with a big “On” button front and center, and the server list is a tap away. You can filter servers by country or see which servers are optimized for specific streaming platforms. That part works great, but there’s no sign of P2P or gaming-specific servers on mobile – that’s a Windows-exclusive feature.
Split Tunneling is only available on Android, which is a shame if you’re on iOS. This is a really useful feature to let some apps bypass the VPN, especially on mobile, where you might want some traffic to go through your local IP while streaming or downloading through the VPN. There’s also no sign of security suites (like antivirus or privacy guard) that are locked on Windows, so mobile users miss out on that too.
That said, the apps do exactly what they should for streaming or basic browsing. If you’re not looking for anything super fancy, they’re simple, reliable, and get the job done. Just don’t expect all the bells and whistles that you might find on the desktop version.
cyberghost for streaming
Streaming is where CyberGhost shines. If you are traveling abroad and want to watch your favorite show or football in your home country, a VPN can help you do so. It’s not illegal to use a VPN to stream geo-restricted content on platforms like Netflix or BBC iPlayer, but it does violate their terms of service, so there’s always a small risk that they could cut off your access – just something to keep in mind.

CyberGhost makes it very easy to choose the right server for your streaming service. It has specially labeled servers for platforms including BBC iPlayer, Now TV, ITV, Channel 4, Netflix and others, so you don’t have to guess which one to use. During my tests, I accessed every local streaming service and was able to watch love island on ITVX or traitor On BBC iPlayer.
If you’re struggling with other VPNs not working with streaming platforms, CyberGhost’s optimized servers are very useful. They’re fast, reliable, and clearly labeled, so I could easily find the right thing for what I wanted to watch.
How good is CyberGhost’s customer support?
CyberGhost’s support leaves a lot of room for improvement. Although it offers 24/7 live chat through its website, which is convenient, it is not as fast as some of its competitors. When I did get in touch, it took longer to connect to an agent than with other VPNs – about two minutes instead of the almost instant response with ExpressVPN or NordVPN.
Once connected the experience was not good. The agent I spoke to confidently told me that the security suite is free with Windows, but in reality it’s an additional payment even on Windows. Although the agents are polite and try their best, this misinformation did not instill much confidence in the knowledge of the support team.
If you don’t want to wait for live chat, CyberGhost has a detailed knowledge base with plenty of guides and FAQs that can help with most basic issues. There is also an option to email the support team, although response times are slow. You also don’t have access to the live chat function from within the app.
