Belagavi: Tension continued to boil in Belagavi city of Karnataka on Saturday, after a stone-pelting incident associated with raising ‘I Love Muhammad’ slogans.
Police have detained 11 persons and have made strict security arrangements in Belagavi city.
The police department is on high alert as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is going to visit the city on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident of stone escape occurred during the ‘Urs’ procession on Friday evening. While the procession was going on, “I Love Muhammad” slogans were raised. When objections were raised, the crowd resorted to a stone layer near the Khadak Gali area.
Police also said that they have found video evidence, in which the youth love the slogans ‘I love Muhammad’ and engage in violence.
The police further said that the group changed the procession route without permission.
Khade Bazar police have detained 11 people in connection with the incident and are questioning them. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Police said that security has been tightened since Friday night, the police patrolled overnight.
A platoon of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) has been deployed in the Khad Bazaar area. Police have indicated that more persons will be taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, Hindutva activists have installed ‘Har Har Mahadev’ banners in Belgavi city. Taking the situation seriously, the police is maintaining a strict vigilance.
In another development, the ‘I Love Muhammad’ banner installed in Aland in Kalburagi district was removed by the court of the court on Saturday.
The banner was placed as part of the Ladle Mashk Dargah Urs program. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and cleaned the banner.
An investigation is on.
