Durg (Chhattisgarh), Nov 1 (IANS) During his one-day visit to Chhattisgarh on the state’s 25th Foundation Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally inquired about the health of renowned folk artist Teejan Bai amid the grand inauguration. The Padma Vibhushan awardee, famous for his Pandwani performance that brought India’s folk tale tradition to the global stage, has faced health challenges.

PM Modi spoke to Teejan Bai’s daughter-in-law Venu Deshmukh for about 1 minute 18 seconds and expressed concern and assured all possible assistance to the family.

Sharing his experience and details, Venu Deshmukh told IANS that Teejan Bai is currently unable to eat solid food and is being given soup to maintain her nutrition. “The Prime Minister said he wanted to meet him in person, but due to some reasons he could not. Today, being in Chhattisgarh, he called to inquire about his well-being and offered help for any need,” he said.

He also said that Teejan Bai’s entire family is a fan of PM Modi, which makes this gesture even more special. The family was deeply hurt by this call. I can’t believe PM Modi is calling, he commented, “After the call a team of doctors came to Teejan ji’s house to examine him.” He appreciated the massive campaign of the Modi government towards eliminating Maoism in the state.

He told IANS that the Prime Minister assured the family of full support and asked them to contact him for any necessary assistance, including medical treatment.

Prime Minister Modi also called writer Vinod Kumar Shukla and inquired about his well being. Vinod Kumar Shukla’s son Shashwat Shukla said that the Prime Minister spoke to his father on phone to inquire about his health.

During the conversation, Vinod Kumar Shukla expressed his desire to return home in good health. Shashwat said, “It is good to see the Prime Minister of the country personally inquiring about the well-being of a writer.”

Meanwhile, Durg District Collector Abhishek Singh and SDM visited Teejan Bai’s residence in Ganiari and checked her health. The family highlighted financial difficulties and requested a government job for a family member.

Tejan Bai, 73, has faced personal and financial struggles in recent years, including the death of her sons and delays in pension support. The state government has provided assistance of Rs 5 lakh and arranged for home care equipment.
