Liam Lawson Disaster was narrowly avoided after two marshals ran onto the track Mexico City Grand Prix – with f1 The driver is saying: “I could have killed them.”

The New Zealander pitted after colliding with Carlos Sainz at Turn 1 after the first lap, resulting in debris on the track.

But the Racing Bulls driver rejoined the track, and turned one or two sections, just as two marshals collecting debris raced around the circuit. Apparently, Marshall was unaware that Lawson had piled up and was therefore an outsider in the pack.

A stunned Lawson, 23, said to his race engineer Ernesto Desiderio over the team radio: “Wait, crap – oh God, are you kidding me? Did you see that?” Fortunately for the marshals, Lawson had been warned about the double waved yellow flags on that section of the racetrack – drivers were instructed to slow down and he was not driving at racing speeds.

Desiderio replied, “You did well to avoid them.” Lawson then said: “I could have killed them, buddy.”

This incident brings back memories Stefan Ocon incident at the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prixin which he narrowly missed a series of photographers in the pit lane, and again there will be more questions about FIASecurity protocols.

Lawson eventually retired from Grand Prix but later said: “I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Came out on a new set of boxing, hard work [tyres]And then I reached turn 1 and there were only two people running on the track.

“To be honest, I almost hit one of them, it was so dangerous. Obviously, there was a miscommunication somewhere, but I’ve never experienced anything like this before, and I really haven’t seen anything like this in the past.

“This is simply unacceptable. We can’t understand how marshals at a live track could be allowed to race on the track like this. I don’t know why, I’m sure we’ll get some kind of explanation, but really it can’t happen again.”

Lawson was in disbelief after the incident

The FIA, F1’s governing body in charge of such procedures, said in a statement: “Following the Turn 1 incident, Race Control was informed that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner.

“On Lap 3, marshals were alerted and placed on standby to remove debris after all cars entered the track and passed Turn 1.

“As soon as it became clear that Lawson had pitted, instructions to dispatch marshals were rescinded, and a double yellow flag was shown in that area. We are still investigating what happened after that point.”

Lando Norris won Action packed race in Mexicoreclaiming f1 championship lead In the process, Oscar Piastri finished fifth. Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen completed the podium.

The next race is in Brazil on November 8.
