Hyderabad student missing for month found dead in Ohio, US

A 25-year-old Indian student missing since last month has been found dead in Cleveland, USA. The death of Mohammad Abdul Arfath from Hyderabad was the second such incident in a week and the 11th in 2024.

The Indian Consulate in New York confirmed Alfas’ death. The Consulate General of India in New York tweeted: “Painful to learn that Mohammad Abdul Arafat was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio and a search and rescue operation is underway for him.”

The consulate said it was in contact with local agencies in the United States to ensure a thorough investigation into the death of the Cleveland University student.

Indian student dies

The consulate further said: “We are providing all possible assistance to the family of the deceased to repatriate his body to India.”

Arfath arrived in the United States in May 2023 to pursue a master’s degree in information technology at the University of Cleveland. The 25-year-old man disappeared around March 7. His father said he had lost contact with Arfath since then and his phone was switched off.
