A husband and five other men have been accused of more than 60 sex crimes against his wife, including multiple counts of rape and administering an intoxicating substance with intent to render unconscious.
Phillip Young and others are accused of multiple crimes against 48-year-old Joanne Young between 2010 and 2023.
Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith of Wiltshire Police said: “This is an important update into a complex and extensive investigation.
“The victim in this case, Joan, has decided to waive her automatic legal right to remain anonymous. She has been supported by specially trained officers from the beginning of the process and has made this decision after numerous discussions with the authorities and support services.”
Police have asked that Ms Young’s privacy be respected at this time.
Philip Young, 49, formerly Swindon, Wilts, But now living in Enfield, north London, he has been charged with sexual offenses including multiple counts of rape, consuming a substance with intent to fool or coerce someone into permitting sexual activity, voyeurism, possessing indecent images of children and possessing extremist images.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday. Five other people named and charged with crimes against Ms Young have been released on bail and will also appear in the same court.
Norman Macsonie, 47, of Sharnbrook, Beds, has been charged with one count of rape and possession of extreme images.
Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed abode, was charged with one count of sexual assault by rape and penetration and two counts of sexual touching.
Connor Sanderson Doyle, 31, of Swindon, has been charged with sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching.
Richard Wilkins, 61, of Swindon, has been charged with one count of rape and sexual touching.
Mohammed Hassan, 37, of Swindon, has been charged with sexual touching.
Specialist prosecutor James Foster said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the prosecution of Philip Young, Norman McSoney, Dean Hamilton, Connor Sanderson Doyle, Richard Wilkins and Mohammed Hassan for a number of offenses following a police investigation into alleged serious sexual offenses against Joanne Young over a 13-year period.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to lay charges and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. We have worked closely with Wiltshire Police as they conducted their investigation.”
