Beijing:
More than 100 cars collided on an icy stretch of highway in the Chinese city of Suzhou, injuring several people, Chinese media reported on Friday, the latest incident caused by extreme weather conditions.
Dramatic footage on state broadcaster CCTV and on social media showed numerous cars haphazardly clustered together on the highway, including one jackknifed in the air at a serious angle. Glass and debris were scattered everywhere.
Much of China has been hit by cold waves, blizzards and sleet over the past few weeks, disrupting transport as millions rush home to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
According to Xinhua News Agency, this week, Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Anhui, Hubei and other provinces and cities launched ice emergency response and launched multiple emergency plans for transportation, supply, and electricity.
