Shimla, November 6 (IANS) Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday reviewed the functioning of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and directed to expedite the implementation of hydropower projects.
He reviewed the 450 MW Shong Tong power project and directed the officials to ensure its completion by December 2026.
CM Sukhu said that more than 60 percent work of the project has already been completed and stressed the need to expedite the remaining work.
He also directed that transmission lines should be installed in parallel to ensure timely evacuation of power from this project.
CM Sukhu also discussed the progress of 130 MW Kashang-II & III, 48 MW Chanju-III, 40 MW Renuka Dam and 191 MW Thana Plauen projects and directed that the timelines for completion should be strictly adhered to.
He stressed on setting up pumped storage projects and asked HPPCL to start work on the proposed 1,630 MW Renukaji Pumped Storage Project and 270 MW Thana Plown Pumped Storage Project at the earliest.
He said pumped storage projects are useful in supplying power during peak demand times and reducing the load on the grid.
The Chief Minister said that harnessing green energy remains a major priority for the government and HPPCL should accelerate the work on the ongoing solar power projects. He also directed HPPCL to identify new land parcels for setting up new solar power projects.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the 1 MW green hydrogen plant being built in Nalagarh and directed the officials to complete the project by June 2026.
He directed HPPCL to adopt professionalism in its functioning and said that the present government has set the target of making Himachal Pradesh the ‘Green Energy’ of the country by next year.
