Eddie Howe explain Newcastle team leader Bruno Guimarães Will do everything possible to prepare for Wednesday’s crucial game Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Guimarães misses Sunday’s game Lost at home to Aston Villa with a ankle injury he suffered 3-0 win over PSV in European competition last weekand saw his teammates extend a miserable record without him.

Since his arrival in January 2022, Newcastle have not won in the nine league games he has not started, and since his debut at Southampton on March 10 of that year, Newcastle have not won in the 11 league games he has not started.

With the European champions challenging on the final day of the league campaign, Howe has not yet ruled out a return for the Brazilian midfielder as he knows how important his presence will be.

“I still don’t think it’s a serious injury,” Howe said of Guimarães’ absence. “He wasn’t very good today. I know he’s going to do everything he can to be fit for Wednesday. We’ll see.”

He added: “When you don’t have players like this you lose a lot but we can’t rely on one player.

“We really have to find a way to win without him, so we hope it won’t be too long.”

Both played the full 90 minutes when the Magpies last visited the Parc des Princes in November 2023, when a controversial late penalty denied them successive wins over Luis Enrique’s side.

Their absence could mean important roles for the likes of Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga against the French giants, with all three used as substitutes against Villa.

“They are all important players for us and eager to play and I have no doubt about the ability of all three of them,” Howe said.

“I have no doubt that in the next group of games they will be very important. They will have the chance to show what they are capable of and the only thing they can do is show their attitude, desire and commitment to the team every time they play.”

“I thought they did that today when they came on the court. I’m happy about it. I thought they made us better and that’s all I can ask for.”

Howe’s men regrouped on Monday morning to lick their wounds after losing at home to Villa and will travel to the French capital to meet the Parisians on Tuesday.
