New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) National Unity Day is being observed on Friday to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and honor his role in promoting national and political unity in India.
While the Statue of Unity stands as India’s message to the world – that “Our unity remains our greatest strength”, the arduous work done to build this engineering marvel has also made the world realize India’s potential.
While crores of citizens across the country and abroad join the Unity Day celebrations, it is relevant to mention that the world’s tallest statue was built not by machines alone, but by the collective spirit and determination of millions of Indians.
Modi Archive, a popular social media handle on Twitter, shared a detailed account on the construction of the engineering marvel.
“Envisioned by the Prime Minister, it is a living tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, the architect of our country’s unity and integrity,” an X post said.
The inspiring story of the Statue of Unity garnered appreciation from many quarters, while “enlightening” others about how this important project took shape and came to light.
Since Sardar Patel played an important role in uniting the country after independence, PM Modi had stressed that the entire country should be united in the construction of the iconic Statue of Unity.

Praising this achievement, PM Modi had said, ‘The world’s tallest statue will remind the whole world and the coming generations of the courage, ability and determination of the person who did this sacred work of foiling the conspiracy to break Bharat Mata into pieces.’
