after wave of prosecutions Against Donald Trump’s enemies, the president’s allies in Congress are now pressuring the Justice Department to file criminal charges against Barack Obama’s former CIA director John Brennan, who has Congress accused of lying,

In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan claimed Brennan “intentionally made false statements” to the panel during an interview in May 2023.

The charges against Brennan, who led the country’s intelligence agency during a federal investigation into allegations of Russian interference in the US elections in 2016, focus on the so-called. Steel Dossier, A series of largely discredited documents compiled by a former British intelligence officer that accused the President and his associates of conspiring with the Kremlin.

Christopher Steele submitted his memo to the FBI in 2016, and a summary of the allegations was included in an intelligence report ordered by the Obama administration after Trump’s election.

“Brennan’s claim that the CIA was ‘not involved at all’ in the Steele Dossier cannot square with the facts,” Jordan wrote Tuesday.

The Ohio Republican wrote, “His testimony was a brazen attempt to knowingly and knowingly give false and imaginary testimony on material facts.”

Brennan, who emerged as a high-profile Trump critic after leaving the agency in January 2017 after Trump was first sworn into office, has long been a target of the president who wants Political vendetta against Democratic figures and others linked to the federal investigation of his 2016 campaign.

Criminal referrals from Congress generally hold little, if any, value in the hands of federal prosecutors, especially those involving evidence that has been publicly available for years.

But the Justice Department now appears to Integral to the President’s personal campaign against his perceived enemies. Former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James were swiftly convicted Following Trump’s orders last month.

Following Comey’s impeachment last month, Brennan said he would not be “daunted” by Trump’s threats and “corruption and perversion of the justice system” within the executive branch.

He said, “I am not afraid of people like Donald Trump. I have always tried to speak my mind and do what I feel is right.” told MSNBC at the time.

“I think more people have to speak out, and I’m waiting for those Republicans in Congress to come to their senses, because I think a lot of Americans don’t appreciate the extent of the damage that’s being done to this country and the dangerous times we’re in,” Brennan said.

The sensational allegations of the Steele Dossier were largely uncorroborated, while Republicans seized on the memo to allege a bogus, Democratic-led conspiracy to undermine Trump’s campaign.

However, US intelligence agencies ultimately determined that Russia-backed interference in 2016 sought to boost Trump while damaging his then-opponent Hillary Clinton with a flood of disinformation.

In his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in 2023, Brennan said that he was “not involved at all in analyzing the dossier.”

“I said the first time I really saw it was after the election,” he said, according to the transcript included in Jordan’s letter to Bondi. “And the CIA was not involved in this document at all. You can direct it to the FBI and others.”

Jordan alleges that the findings of the classified intelligence report are “false” and that Brennan “made the final decision to include information from the dossier in the report, in conjunction with then-FBI Director James Comey”.

The Republican referral comes after indictments against three of Trump’s foes, all of whom have dismissed the allegations against him as politically motivated and baseless.

Comey is also accused of lying to Congress over testimony related to the so-called Russiagate investigation. He Has pleaded not guilty.

Trump’s Former National Security Advisor turned prominent critic John Bolton has also pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. James, the New York attorney general, is expected to be tried in federal court this week.
