House collapses, tunnel rescue hero's daughter misses Class 10 exams: Family

Lawyer Hasan was involved in the rescue of 41 laborers from a tunnel in Uttarakhand last year.

New Delhi:

A teenage daughter of lawyer Hasan, a rat-hole mining expert who was involved in the rescue of 41 laborers trapped in an under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand last year, missed her exams on Thursday due to the chaos caused by the demolition of their house. His family members claimed.

The family’s belongings, including notes, books and the school uniform of Hasan’s daughter Aliza, were buried under the debris of the family’s small house in Shri Ram Colony, which the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) demolished on Wednesday as “encroachment”. Had done it. ,

Aliza, a Class 10 student of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), could not appear for her Home Science exam due to the chaos following the demolition of her house, her family members claimed.

“On the day of her exam, my daughter is standing on the road. Her books, school dress, notes – everything is scattered somewhere under the debris,” Hassan’s wife Sabana told PTI.

He also alleged that some people forcibly entered his house by breaking the door and when the vandalism was carried out, only his daughter and son were at home.

“When the DDA officials came with the police, there was no one at home. Aliza, who was preparing for her exams, and my son Azim were at home. On receiving information that my house was being demolished, my husband And I reached our house, Sabana said.

Aliza said that after she missed the exam she spoke to her teacher, who assured her that something would be done.

His elder brother Azim said, “My education was disrupted during COVID-19, but my sister is very enthusiastic about studies. She used to teach our younger brother and children from nearby houses.”

He feared that his sister’s education would be affected due to the unrest that followed the demolition of the house.

The DDA claimed that the demolition was carried out on a plot that was part of a planned development land.

“At no time during the demolition exercise were we aware of the lawyer’s recent contribution to the rescue operation of trapped workers in the Silkyara Barkot tunnel in Uttarkashi,” it said in a statement.

However, family members claimed that they had told the DDA team about Hasan’s role in the rescue operation in Uttarakhand in November last year during the demolition.

Munna Qureshi, another rat-hole mining expert who was part of the rescue team with Hasan in Uttarakhand, said, “When they were demolishing the house, we told them that we had saved lives in Uttarkashi, but the DDA People didn’t do that.” Didn’t bother to listen to us. Now, they’re lying, saying they didn’t know.”

Hasan said, “When I inquired with DDA officials, they said that my house is unauthorized. I tried to explain to them that it is situated with other houses and there is a DDA wall behind it, but they insisted that This is unauthorized.” Justifying its action, the DDA said that in its role as an authority, it cannot allow “encroachment” on its land or “unauthorized construction in its development areas”.

The DDA also said that Hasan was aware of the “encroachment condition” of his house as it was earlier removed in 2016 and again encroached upon in 2017.

Stating that it was a “routine encroachment-removal operation”, the DDA said Wednesday’s action was “not targeted at any particular individual”.
