“Hope we are not going to do this”: Trump on possible attacks on Iran

US President Donald Trump expressed cautious optimism about avoiding further military action against Iran, given that the Islamic Republic also does not want such action against it.

The US President further said that Iran wants to meet and work between the two countries to prevent any future military action.

Trump said during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (local time), “I hope we are not going to do so. I can’t imagine doing so.

His comment comes against the backdrop of recent tensions after recent US-Israel attacks at Iranian nuclear sites and military installations.
Asked if any conversation with Iran would be determined, Trump nodded, given that the US had a plan to interact with Tehran.

“We are going to have a meeting … we will see what happens. We have determined Iran’s conversation. They want to talk. They took a big dhabbing, I think, when we hit three sites,” said Trump.

Earlier, Iranian President Masaud Peseshakian expressed confidence that Tehran could resolve his disputes with the US through dialogue, while admitting that the building trusts would be difficult due to the previous US and Israeli attacks on Iran, as stated by Al Jazira.

The conflict began on 13 June when Israel launched the “Operation Rising Lion”, which led to widespread aerial attacks on Iranian soils targeting Natans and Fordo, Missile Production Centers and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command base. Many top IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists were allegedly murdered during the operation.

This was followed by US attacks on 21–22 June under “Operation Midnight Hammer”, which also targeted the Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

Iran then attacked the missile attacks against Israel and an American military airbase in Qatar. Tehran strongly condemned both works, calling them a clear violation of international law and United Nations Charter.

Meanwhile, Israeli PM Netanyahu said that he had sent a letter to the Nobel Prize Committee, in which Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He personally handed over a copy of the nomination papers to Trump during his meeting at Ther White House. (AI)
