The recent address of Jammu and Kashmir social activist and journalist Yana Mir in the British Parliament has become a topic of discussion. Speaking at an event organized by the Center for Jammu and Kashmir Studies in the UK, she said she was “not Malala Yousafzai” and was safe in India.
“I am not Malala Yousafzai because I am free and safe in my country, my homeland Kashmir, which is part of India. I would never need to flee my country and seek refuge in your country. I would never do that ” In his address, he said, “Become Malala Yousafzai anytime, but I have an objection to Malala Yousafzai defaming my country, my progressive motherland, by calling her oppressed.”
At the event at the UK Parliament, Ms Mir received the Diversity Ambassador Award from UK MP Theresa Villiers in the presence of MPs Bob Blackman and Virendra Sharma.

- He has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from IEC University and an MBA degree from Mumbai University.
- Ms Mir is currently a writer (freelance) at Firstpost and managing editor at ITV Network. She has previously worked as editor-in-chief at TRK News and held the role of head of marketing at a Mumbai-based firm.
