Gandhinagar, Oct 21 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to host a celebratory program at his residence in Ahmedabad on October 22 to mark the Gujarati New Year.
Along with traditional rituals and greeting the visitors, he will meet the visitors at the Royal Crescent Bungalows in Ahmedabad from 9 am to 10.30 am.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will also join Shah in the public Diwali festivities, an occasion which also coincides with the Home Minister’s birthday, adding a personal note to the celebrations.
Born in 1964, Shah, the chief strategist of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one of the closest aides of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has played a key role in shaping the national rise of the party.
On his birthday, party workers and supporters across Gujarat and India extend good wishes through social service activities, blood donation camps and cultural programmes.
Meanwhile, in Gujarat, Gujarati New Year, also known as Bestu Varas, is celebrated a day after Diwali and marks the beginning of the Vikram Samvat calendar, which is traditionally followed in the state.
This day symbolizes renewal, prosperity and new beginnings.
During his visit, Shah is likely to inaugurate the newly constructed MLA Quarters in Sector-17 of Gandhinagar on October 23.
Built at a cost of Rs 220 crore, the project replaces the old MLAs’ housing complex and has 216 air-conditioned 4BHK flats in 12 towers, each nine storeys high.
The project, which began in 2021, is spread over an area of more than 28,000 square meters.
Each residence is equipped with two master bedrooms, two additional rooms, a kitchen, dining area, waiting room and an office space as well as a separate staff room. The complex also includes landscaped gardens, a community hall, an auditorium, a health club, a canteen and recreation areas for children and senior citizens.
Officials said elaborate security and administrative arrangements are underway for the event, which falls on Bhai Bij, the last day of Diwali festivities, a symbol of renewal and brotherhood.
