New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead the discussion on key issues related to the states and the Center at the Northern Regional Council meeting in Faridabad, Haryana on Monday.
Chaired by HM Shah, the 32nd meeting of the Northern Territorial Council is likely to discuss wide-ranging issues of national importance, including implementation of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) for speedy investigation and speedy disposal of cases of sexual crimes against women and children.
Issues such as providing brick-and-mortar banking facilities within the designated area of each village; Implementation of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112); A statement issued on Sunday said that various regional level issues of common interest like nutrition, education, health, power, urban planning and strengthening the cooperative system may also come up for discussion.
The Northern Zonal Council comprises the states/union territories of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh.
Senior officials of the Government of India, State Governments and Union Territories will also participate in the meeting to be chaired by HM Shah.
The meeting on Monday will be organized by the Inter-State Council Secretariat of the Home Ministry, which will be hosted by the Haryana government.
The Union Home Minister is the Chairman of the Northern Territorial Council, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is its Vice-Chairman.
The role of the regional councils is advisory; However, over the years, these councils have proved to be an important factor in promoting healthy bonds of mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields.
Five regional councils, including the Northern Regional Council, were established under Sections 15 to 22 of the States Reorganization Act, 1956.
A total of 63 meetings of various regional councils and their standing committees have been held in the last 11 years, in collaboration with all state governments, central ministries and departments, a statement said.
It states that the regional councils provide a forum to resolve and escalate issues and disputes between the Center and member states/UTs, between member states/UTs, and within the region.
