Patna: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing a major election rally in Darbhanga on Wednesday, took a broad stance against what he called dynastic politics, targeting Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Shah accused both the leaders of trying to install their children in top offices. He said, “Sonia Gandhi wants to make her son Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister and Lalu Prasad Yadav wants to make his son the Chief Minister of Bihar.”
He said, “I want to tell them that there is no vacancy for any post. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister, and Nitish Kumar is the Chief Minister, and they will continue in those positions.”
Describing his attack as a contradiction between nepotism and youth empowerment, Shah pointed to the BJP’s campaign to include youth candidates for the first time.
He said the party would give tickets to one lakh youth for local and higher offices and highlighted 25-year-old folk singer Maithili Thakur, whom he said the BJP has fielded from Alinagar despite her lack of prior political background.
“PM Modi has said that BJP will give tickets for the first time to one lakh youth to contest elections for posts ranging from Gram Parishad members and Sarpanches to Block and District Panchayat members, MLAs and MPs. An RJD leader was asking who we gave the ticket for the first time. So let me tell you, we gave the ticket to 25-year-old Maithili Thakur, who has no political background. While Lalu Prasad wants to make his son the Chief Minister and Sonia Gandhi wants to make her son the Prime Minister. BJP is the only party which takes the youth of the country forward in politics.
On national security and law and order issues, Shah praised the actions of the Modi government against the Popular Front of India.
He said, “The Popular Front of India (PFI) was formed here, but the then Congress government did not ban it. PM Modi banned PFI in a single night, raided more than 100 places and put the entire PFI network behind bars. I promise that as long as there is even a single BJP MP, we will not let even a single PFI member out of jail.”
Shah also credited the Modi government for major decisions on Kashmir – mentioning the abrogation of Article 370 – and said the government has taken a tough stance against terrorism.
Shah said, “Congress party and Lalu Prasad Yadav protected Article 370 for 70 years. PM Modi abolished Article 370 forever. There was a time when terrorists used to shed blood on Indian soil and there was no reaction. Today under the leadership of PM Modi, we enter the houses of terrorists and eliminate them. PM Modi started the tradition of giving a befitting reply to terrorism in the country.”
Turning to welfare and state-level achievements, Shah cited several programs of the Central and Bihar government, including free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for the poor, housing schemes, PM-Kisan direct payment of Rs 6,000 per year, distribution of food grains under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, a one-time transfer of Rs 10,000 to over one crore Jeevika Didis and 125 units of free electricity per household.
He also mentioned the increase in widow pension and other state measures, which he attributed to the Nitish Kumar government.
Recalling the 2020 assembly result in Darbhanga – when the NDA won nine out of ten seats – Shah urged voters to give all ten seats to the NDA this time, appealing to local supporters to put all the Darbhanga seats in Narendra Modi’s kitty.
He also promised to build a grand museum in Darbhanga where the manuscripts of Bihar will be kept under one roof.
