Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday sounded the trumpet for the upcoming local and civic body elections in Maharashtra, asking party workers to ensure a landslide victory over the opposition to ensure a “triple engine government” in the state.
“In Maharashtra, the BJP-led NDA has been victorious three times and Devendra Fadnavis has become the Chief Minister for the third time. Maharashtra currently has a double engine government. However, I am not satisfied with just this – we want a triple engine government. The party must fight the upcoming local and civic body elections with full force, defeating the opposition which will not be visible even through binoculars.” HM Shah said while addressing BJP workers after laying the foundation stone of the new office of Maharashtra BJP unit in South Mumbai.
Home Minister Shah reminded that after the BJP broke its alliance with undivided Shiv Sena before the 2014 elections, the party fought independently and emerged as the single largest entity to form the government under the leadership of CM Devendra Fadnavis. Since then, Fadnavis has held the chief minister’s post three times, he said, and the BJP – which was once ranked fourth in the state – has now emerged as Maharashtra’s dominant political force.
He said, “I am happy that the BJP has not only become stronger in Maharashtra, but has also remained true to its ideology and traditions. Today, the BJP stands not on political crutches but on its own strength. Just as the BJP holds an indelible place in the politics of India, it has now become a strong signature in the political arena of Maharashtra.”
The Home Minister also underlined the historical importance of the plot where the new headquarters is being built.
He said, “This is the land (Mumbai) where Jan Sangh merged with Janata Dal, from which BJP was born. As Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji had said: ‘Andhera chhatega, kamal khilega’ – darkness will end and lotus will bloom.”
Home Minister Shah said that BJP is proud to see Narendra Modi leading the country as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time.
He said, “We have proved that family-run parties can no longer dominate Indian politics. It is performance-based politics that will take the country forward. A child born in an ordinary tea-selling family became the Prime Minister through dedication, sacrifice and hard work. A party which cannot sustain democracy within its organization can never protect democracy in the country. This is our message to all dynastic parties.”
He further said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the BJP has fulfilled its key promises, including the construction of Ram Temple and abrogation of Article 370, while some states have implemented the Uniform Civil Code.
HM Shah said, “India has emerged as a strong nation and the world’s fourth largest economy under the leadership of PM Modi, whose government has prioritized national security. Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev are the latest examples of our zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.”
