New Delhi, 5 October (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the country’s first cooperative compressed biogas plant in Kopargaon, Maharashtra and highlighted the “farmer-centered” initiative of the Narendra Modi government.
This plant is an important milestone in India’s efforts to promote green energy and strengthen the cooperative sector.
The Union Minister said that it was called a “moment of pride for the nation” and said that Prime Minister Modi’s vision has turned the cooperative movement into a motivational power for rural economic empowerment.
He said, “By establishing the cooperative sector, PM Modi started a new lifeline for the country’s rural economy. The cooperative sector is emerging as a strong pillar of development of India,” he said.
The Union Home Minister said that under the leadership of PM Modi, with the support of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), 15 cooperative Chinese factories across the country will soon be selected to develop a similar biogas initiative to promote permanent rural industries.
Highlighting the commitment of the Narendra Modi government towards farmers, Union Minister Shah mentioned the launch of the ‘Dalan Self-reliance Project’ on 1 October-an ambitious Rs 11,340-crore mission which was with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency in pulses.
“The Narendra Modi government is dedicated to the farmers of the country. Under this project, pigeons will be able to sell their produce on the minimum support price (MSP) through NAFED and NCCF. The government will buy 100 percent of these pulses,” the Union Minister said.
He also announced that 1,000 processing units would be set up and 38 lakh high quality seed kits would be distributed to the farmers.
The central government has recently increased Rs 300 per quintal in the MSP of lentils, mustard Rs 250 and gram to Rs 225.
Repeating PM Modi’s call for sustainability, Union Minister Shah urged the citizens to join the ‘Name of Ped Mala’, plant two trees – one earth in the name of earth and one in the name of his mother – to compete with climate change.
He said, “Prime Minister Modi has taken India’s economy from 11th to fourth place globally. To become number one, ‘Swadeshi’ has no option.”
