New Delhi, October 7 (IANS) After 18 passengers died when a private bus was hit by a landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur on Tuesday, President Draupadi Murmu expressed condolences to the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The President wrote on Twitter, “The news of the death of several people in the bus accident due to landslide in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh is extremely saddening. I express my condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his “condolences” towards the people who lost their loved ones in this accident and has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the deceased. The next of kin of each deceased will be given Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF, while the injured will be given Rs. 50,000.
“Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families in this difficult time. Pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Next of kin of each deceased will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured: PM,” the PMO wrote on X.
Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed condolences to the people who lost their loved ones in this accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
HM Amit Shah said on Twitter, “I am deeply saddened by the bus accident caused by landslide in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. NDRF teams have reached the incident site and are engaged in rescue operations. I express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this accident. Also, I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
At least 18 passengers were killed when a private bus was hit by a landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur, the home district of BJP national president JP Nadda, on Tuesday, officials said.
It has been raining intermittently in the area since Monday.
The accident took place in Bhalughat area of Jhanduta assembly constituency.
There were about 35 passengers in the bus which was going from Marotan to Ghumarwin.
State officials and machinery have been deployed to clear the debris and rescue operations are underway to trace the missing passengers.
Officials said 18 bodies have so far been recovered from the mangled remains of the bus.
Eyewitnesses said that a mountain had fallen on the bus and the chances of survival of the passengers were slim.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolences to the bereaved people.
