Here’s how you can get ₹1,000 Fastag recharge by reporting dirty toilets on national highways

Commuters on India’s national highways now have a chance to earn money Rs 1,000 in Fastag credit – all by helping the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) maintain clean roadside facilities.

Under a new initiative launched as part of the Government’s Special Challenge 5.0, NHAI has launched the “Clean Toilet Picture Challenge” to encourage commuters to report dirty toilets at toll plazas.

How the scheme works

According to the official statement issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, highway users can report dirty toilets at toll plazas by uploading geo-tagged and time-stamped photographs through the latest version of “RajmargYatra” mobile app.

Users are required to provide their name, location, vehicle registration number (VRN) and mobile number while submitting the report.

Every VRN submitting such valid entry will be eligible for Reward of ₹1,000 as FASTag recharge.

The amount will be directly credited to the FASTag linked to the reported vehicle and will not be transferable or redeemed.

The campaign will continue till October 31, 2025 and will be applicable on all national highways across the country.

Eligibility and Verification Rules

NHAI clarified that the campaign includes only those toilets which are constructed, operated or maintained under its jurisdiction. Facilities at fuel stations, dhabas or other non-NHAI public places have been excluded from the scheme.

Each vehicle registration number can claim the reward only once during the entire campaign period.

Similarly, each toilet facility will be eligible for reward consideration only once per day, even if multiple complaints are lodged. “If multiple reports are received for the same toilet on the same day, only the first valid image reported through the HighwayYatra app will be considered eligible for the reward,” the statement said.

All submissions will undergo verification through AI-assisted screening and manual verification. Any duplicate, manipulated or previously reported images will be rejected, ensuring that only genuine complaints will be rewarded.

NHAI’s big cleanliness mission

NHAI’s cleanliness initiative is a key component of Special Campaign 5.0, which focuses on enhancing cleanliness, transparency and efficiency in governance. The ministry said the campaign also includes repairing potholes, beautification of flyovers and toll plazas and efforts to improve the overall road user experience.
