Heavy rain in Pakistan kills 8 people and injures dozens

Heavy rains in northwest Pakistan killed eight people, mostly children, and injured 12 others, an official said on Saturday.

Anwar Shahzad, spokesman for the local disaster management agency, said heavy downpours in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province caused rooms to collapse, crushing those inside.

Shahzad said the three deceased were brothers and sisters from the same family, aged between 3 and 7 years old. He added that the casualties occurred within the past 24 hours.

The most affected provinces are northern Faryab, eastern Nangarhar and central Dekundi.

The United Nations agency said it was the third flood in less than a month in the northern region, killing seven people and affecting 384 families due to heavy rains.
