Heavy rain disrupts life in some parts of Bihar, schools closed in Chhapra, Gopalganj

Patna, October 4 (IANS) disrupted heavy rains in some parts of Bihar, forcing officials at Chhapra and Gopalganj to close all schools and Anganwadi centers on Saturday.

In the last 24 hours, continuous heavy rains affected the traffic movement and affected the conditions like severe waterfall and floods.

Major roads, markets and residential colonies have been submerged, making the daily movement extremely difficult. In the low -lying areas, water has entered the houses, causing the residents to be stuck indoors.

A traffic movement with rickshaws, motorcycles, and small vehicles has also been killed, which are struggling to navigate on the streets of the waterfall.

Rain has also taken a heavy toll on agriculture, which damages the standing crops of paddy, maize, sugarcane and vegetables.

Many farmer organizations have demanded immediate survey of crop loss and adequate compensation.

District administrations have laid the disaster response teams on alert to assist residents in waterlogged areas and where necessary, to start withdrawal.

Efforts are on to pump water from the worst hit areas.

The residents have urged the authorities to deploy additional pumping sets to set up relief camps and drain the water.

According to the Patna Meteorological Department, Bihar remains under a yellow warning, with heavy rains, thunder, electricity, and winds reaching 40 km per hour in many districts.

Officials warned the residents to highlight the lines of open fields, high trees and during the storm, and to go to high ground in case of floods.

Meteorologists blamed heavy rainfall in a low pressure area developed in the west-central Gulf of Bengal, intensifying in a deep depression.
