Hearing of misconduct facing police after 90 -year -old woman with dementia

Two serving metropolitan police officers and a former officer will face a hearing of an independent office (IOPC) for an incident in South London, where a 90-year-old black woman with dementia was “red-dotted” with a tusser, handcuffed and put into a spit hood.

IOPC said that an official responded to a disturbance at a address on 9 May 2023 after a call from a female career.

The officer found that the woman was holding the kitchen utensils and was later red-dotted, or targeted when she refused to leave them, although Tussar was not discharged.

More officials participated in the property and the woman was handcuffed. IOPC said that the spit hood was implemented after spitting on the authorities.

He was rushed to the hospital and later handcuffs and hood were removed.

The IOPC investigation was initiated after a voluntary referral from the MET in June 2023 and the use of force was accused of a complaint from the family and discrimination due to its age, breed, gender and disability.

The Watchdog determined that there were cases of gross misconduct to respond to the woman’s treatment, but no evidence was found that the woman was discriminated against on the basis of breed or sex.
