Health Canada remembers 600K electrical outlets sold in Canada in the last decade

Health Canada has been recalling more than 600,000 electrical outlets sold in Canada over the past decade due to the threat of a possible fire.

The federal agency says that the Electrical devices Ground Fault Circuit Interpreter (GFCI) is missing three models of safety outlets, which were sold in home hardware outlets across the country, as the terminal screw cannot be tightened properly, which can cause an increase in temperature, which may cause fire.

Health Canada says that since July 9, 2025, there have been 812 reports of screws that were defective, unable to snatch or not be tight and a report of fire resulted in property damage. There is no news of injuries.

Affected product The letter “TR” has been stamped on the front and the “LGL” letter emerged backwards and tolerate the following details:

Union Ridge, the distributor of products made in China, says about 664,000 units of affected products were sold in Canada from 2015 to May 2025.

Health Canada said in a statement, “Consumers should stop using the product immediately called and should contact the Union Ridge for instructions to uninstall the GFCI safety outlets and return to any home hardware store for refund.”
