New Delhi, 19 September (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several BJP leaders expressed shock and grief over the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg on Friday, saying he would be remembered for his rich contribution to music.

PM Modi took the social media platform X and said, “The popular singer Zubeen was surprised by the sudden demise of Garg. He would be remembered for his rich contribution to music. His presentation was very popular among people in all areas of life. Condolences to his family and fans.”

BJP President JP Nadda also expressed his condolences and said, “Assam’s beloved voice became deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Zubine Garg ji. His music and immense contribution to cinema brought Assam’s rich culture to the national stage. Countless fans.

Former Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh said, “Mr. Zubeen Garg, the music of Assam’s heartbeat and a true cultural icon, deeply saddened by the untimely demise of a true cultural icon, whose voice echoed the souls of the people of the Northeast. My heartfelt condolences to his family, fans, and the entire Assamese community.”

Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika also took the social media platform X and wrote, “I am shattered and lost for words. It is incredible that our most loved, pride and heartthrobe of Assam, Zubin Garg, is not more. Family, friends, and countless fans whose lives touched with their music.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu echoed similar feelings on X, “Words decrease in such moments. Zubeen Garg was more than a singer. He was a cultural torch. His tunes brought people together, raised souls, and knew his soul.

According to sources, the acclaimed singer met with an accident, while Scuba diving from the coast of Singapore on Thursday night. Police divers managed to get him out of the water and took him to a nearby hospital.

Despite being placed under intensive medical care, doctors could not revive it.

Garg visited Singapore to attend the North East Festival, where he was about to perform on Friday. His sudden death has made a palab of sadness on the incident and the Assamese community worldwide.

Known as the cultural icon of Assam, Zubeen Garg was not only a singer, but also a musician, music director, actor and filmmaker. With a career spread over three decades, he lent thousands of songs in Assamese, Hindi, Bengali and many other Indian languages.

His versatility and ability to bridge the regional and mainstream music gained immense popularity and respect to him. From the romantic Gathagit “Yes Ali”, who defined the soundtrack of the region for decades for countless Assamese Hits, for PAN-India fame, Garg’s contribution to music was unique.
