Hawk-Eye has apologized to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after making a mistake during review in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday. The incident occurred on the last ball of the 11th over when United’s spinner Agha Salman’s ball hit the front pad of Gladiators batsman Rossouw in front of the stumps. Ground umpire Aleem Dar raised his finger on the appeal but Rossouw sent it over the top. However, the review took everyone by surprise as Hawk-Eye revealed that the ball might have missed the off stump. Due to this the umpire’s out decision was overturned and Rossouw was saved.

Hawk-Eye later admitted that it was a mistake on his part and had also written an apology letter to PCB chief operating officer Salman Naseer and the production department, ESPNcricinfo said in a report. The report said Hawk-Eye acknowledged that the ball tracking shown during review did not reflect the actual delivery path.

Riley Rossouw made up for the mistake with an unbeaten 34 as Gladiators won in 18.2 overs while chasing the target of 139 runs. The Gladiators won the game by 3 wickets and Rossouw was named player of the match.

Meanwhile, United captain Shadab Khan, whose team lost, expressed his disappointment over the DRS (Decision Review System) after the game.

“I think technology was to blame for this defeat. We were shown a different ball for review (Rossouw’s review). I bowled 4 overs as a leg spinner, it was not turning much. It took off. Showed impact outside and kept moving forward. In a big tournament like this, such mistakes should not happen,” said Shadab.
