On November 25, a 30-year-old Indian-origin student from Haryana was stabbed to death in Worcester, United Kingdom. The victim, Vijay Kumar Sheoran, was a resident of Charkhi Dadri and had resigned from his job in the Central Board of Excise and Customs earlier this year to pursue higher studies abroad.
British authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances of the incident. Meanwhile, Vijay’s family in Haryana fears that someone from Haryana or Punjab may be involved. They have contacted the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) requesting assistance from the Indian High Commission in London to bring his mortal remains home as soon as possible.
Vijay’s brother Ravi Kumar, who lives in Jagarambas village of Badhara sub-division, has written a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs demanding immediate intervention.
“Our family is devastated by this incident. We request the Ministry of External Affairs to help us bring back my brother’s body for cremation. Due to complex legal formalities and documentation in the UK, it is difficult for us to manage on our own,” Ravi wrote.
He said Vijay had earlier served in Kochi before leaving his government post to study in the UK. Appeals have also been made to Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
MLA demanded intervention from the Center
Charkhi Dadri MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan has raised this issue publicly. In a post on Twitter, he expressed grief over the incident and urged senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini to ensure prompt assistance to the family.
He wrote, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Vijay Kumar Sheoran… who lost his life following a brutal stabbing incident in Worcester, United Kingdom.”
