Haryana INLD chief Nafe Singh Rathi shot dead, his SUV ambushed by gunmen

INLD’s media cell chief Rakesh Sihag confirmed the death of Nafe Singh Rathi in the firing.

Chandigarh:

Haryana Indian National Lok Dal President and former MLA Nafe Singh Rathi was shot dead by unidentified gunmen who ambushed his SUV in Jhajjar district this evening. Two other people traveling with them also died, while two others were seriously injured.

Rathi and his companions were inside the vehicle when people in a car opened fire. After the attack the attackers fled from the spot.

The injured were immediately taken to the nearby Brahma Shakti Sanjeevani Hospital for treatment, but on reaching there the former MLA was declared dead.

Nafe Singh Rathi was INLD MLA from Bahadurgarh where the attack took place. The state police is on alert after the heart-wrenching attack. Multiple teams have been rapidly dispatched to the crime scene and are collecting evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from various nearby locations to determine the route of arrival of the attacker and his subsequent escape route.

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his close aide Kala Jathedi are suspected to be behind this attack. Initial investigation revealed that the attack occurred due to a property dispute.

Nafe Singh Rathi has a prominent political background, he has been MLA in Haryana Assembly twice. He was also the state president of Haryana Former MLAs Association. Rathi had once contested the Lok Sabha elections from Rohtak constituency and was actively involved in political affairs.

He was also the Chairman of Bahadurgarh Municipal Council twice.

His name came into limelight last year when Jagdish Rathi, son of former Haryana minister Mange Ram Rathi, died by suicide and a case was registered against Nafe Singh Rathi on charges of instigation. Harassment charges were later filed against Rathi and his nephew Sonu in the suicide case. Rathi was granted anticipatory bail by the High Court on January 24, 2023.
