Rohtak, 22 September (IANS) Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda said on Monday that kharif crops like paddy, millet and cotton have started reaching the market, but the government has failed to start its purchase, which causes farmers to “sell yields at crisis prices”.
He said that paddy is being sold at Rs 300-400 per quintal under the minimum support price (MSP), while millet is about 600 rupees less quintal and cotton is about Rs 2,000 less per quintal.
He told the media here that after facing disastrous floods, farmers are now being forced to give another blow to the government.
Responding to a question on the Indian Rashtriya Lok Dal (INLD), Hooda said that every party in democracy has the freedom to do politics and organize programs.
“However, parties usually try to present their achievements to the public through such events.”
He said that BJP and INLD are standing outside as parties, which have no record of achievements to perform.
INLD, he alleged, is acting as a proxy for the BJP, as the BJP never takes the Congress directly, but instead it depends on allies such as INLD and Janta Janta Party (JJP), so that anti -BJP votes can be divided and manipulations can be managed.
Leader of the opposition Hooda said that there is a lack of any achievement to present the BJP and the ILD and asked if they would explain the terms of Haryana under their rule.
He questioned what the situation of the farmers was during that time and reminded that during the inlled rule, the farmers were fired.
He asked who was responsible for incidents like Gahm Genocide and who chose to run into disguise instead of facing accountability. Congress leader Hooda further asked whether the INLD would explain that the lands of farmers were forcibly taken during their government, so the land of debt-affected farmers was confiscated, and why those farmers were arrested and imprisoned.
He said that the people of Haryana still remember that under the INLD-BJP rule, hooliganism was on a large scale and the rule was almost from jail.
Hooda said that it was a Congress government in 2005 which freed the state from this intimidation.
He said that the Congress said, forgive the electricity bills worth Rs 1,600 crore for the farmers, reduced the interest rate on crop loan, waived a loan of Rs 2,300 crore and introduced a policy to ensure that no farmer’s land would be confiscated. He challenged INLD to present these truths to the public.
Drawing its attention to the BJP, Hooda said that the party had not fulfilled a single promise made before the elections. The pledge to give Rs 3,100 per quintal to farmers for paddy proved to be completely hollow.
Similarly, the promise of providing 2,100 monthly assistance to women also turned out to be a shame, as the conditions imposed by the government limited the benefits of the scheme to a select.
Hooda said that the BJP government deliberately delays every process, whether it is procurement, compensation, or fertilizer distribution.
The survey of the flood -affected land is moving at a sluggish speed, verified on only 3 lakh acres on only 3 lakh acres.
He urged the state BJP government to conduct special land surveys immediately and provide financial relief to farmers, stating that the complications created through portals have been designed to deny compensation.
He said that when it comes to registering cases of stubble burning, the government depends on satellite imagery. He questioned why the same technology cannot be used to identify flooded fields and compensate the affected farmers.
Recalling the 1995 floods in the state, two -time Chief Minister Hooda said that the then Congress government had given direct cash compensation to the farmers for all kinds of damage, including crops, agricultural structures, tubewells, houses and shops.
