Haryana damages the debt of 3,00,000 flood-hit farmers; Tubewells discount on electricity bills

Chandigarh, October 1 (IANS) In a major relief to farmers whose crops were damaged in floods, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has announced the adjournment of crop loan repayment and also a discount in the electricity bill of tubewells by the end of December.

With this, about 3,00,000 farmers will benefit.

The Chief Minister told the media here that through the e-Kashtipuri portal, the government on Wednesday transferred Rs 4.72 crore to the accounts of 2,386 people, whose houses and household goods were damaged and livestock in the flood. The compensation amount included Rs 4.67 crore for damage to homes and Rs 4.21 lakh for the loss of cattle.

According to the Chief Minister, 5.37 lakh farmers in 6,397 villages had registered themselves with the e-Kasatipuri portal for crop damage. After verification, the government will give compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre to the farmers.

He said, “In villages where floods have damaged more than 50 percent of crops, and where indebted farmers have lost 33 percent or more crops, the recovery of current kharif crop loans taken by farmers of cooperatives has been postponed,” he said.

CM said, “They will also be provided crop loans for Rabi crop.”

He said that by September 30, five lakh metric tons of paddy reached the state, out of which 3.58 lakh metric tons were purchased.

About 109 crore rupees were deposited in farmers’ accounts.

“Similarly, 187.30 MT of millet procurement has been purchased by agencies and traders by 4,970 MT,” he said.

CM said, “We will ensure payment of MSP of Rs 2,775 per quintal to farmers for millet. We will make up for the remaining amount on which the millet is purchased by the state procurement agencies.”

The Chief Minister said, “If the millet is damaged for some reason and is purchased by the traders at a low price, then we will still pay the price difference to the farmer at the prescribed rate that day.”

“Today, Rs 404.79 crore was released to the Panchayati Raj Institutions of the state as the second installment,” he said.

This amount will be transferred to the accounts of 5,719 panchayats, 144 panchayat summit and three district councils.

“In the last four years, we have provided Rs 3,700 crore to Panchayati Raj Institutions for development works. We have launched the Dandel Lado Laxmi Yojana on 25 September, the birth anniversary of Pandit Dandial Upadhyay. The same day, Lado Laxmi App was also launched.
