Washington:
After freezing important funds for Harvard University, the Trump administration has warned that America’s wealthiest educational institution may lose its power to enroll foreign students if it does not bend and accepts its demand to curb the so-called “anti-Jewishism” in the premises. The Trump administration has allegedly contacted the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which has been asked to cancel the tax-free situation of the IV League College, cited alleged failure to address the issue of enmity against Jewish people on the campus.
Recently, US President Donald Trump has targeted aggressively reputed universities- which was the center of bitter protest against Hamas in Gaza- to direct immigration officials to snatch his federal money and existing foreign student protesters, including people with green cards.
Foreign student enrollment
Increasing the rift at Ivy League institutions of Trump administration, the US Department of Homeland Security said Harvard University would lose its ability to enroll foreign students, if it does not meet the demands to share information on some visa holders.
The Department of Homeland security secretary Christie Nom said in a statement on Wednesday that he wrote a letter demanding a record to Harvard, which he had until April 30 called Harvard’s foreign student visa holders called “illegal and violent activities”.
“And if Harvard cannot verify that it is in full compliance with its reporting requirements, the university will lose the privilege of nomination to foreign students,” he said.
NOEM also announced the termination of two DHS grants, with a total number of more than $ 2.7 million to Harvard.
“With a settlement of $ 53.2 billion, Harvard may fund his own anarchy-DHS will not be,” NoM said, Harvard added a “anti-American, Pro-Hamas ideology” in Harvard.
Harvard reply
A spokesman from Harvard said that the university knew about NoM’s letter “About the cancellation of the grant and the investigation of foreign student visas.”
The spokesperson said that the university first raised its statement with its statement “not surrendered its freedom or abandon its constitutional rights”, while it would follow the law.
Harvard has earlier stated that he served to fight antisementism and other prejudice in his premises, preserving academic freedom and opposition rights.
Change in tax
Arguing that Harvard’s conduct violates its 501 (C) (3) the conditions required to maintain a non-profit situation, the Trump administration has asked the IRS to cancel its tax-free status.
CNN said on Wednesday that IRS was planning to cancel the tax-free situation of Harvard and a final decision was expected soon.
Harvard said that there was no legal basis for cancellation of his tax-free position, saying that such action would be unprecedented, reduced its financial assistance for students and would give up some important medical research programs.
Trump’s crack in universities
The Trump administration has threatened universities with a cut in federal funding against the Palestinian campus against American ally Israel’s disastrous military attack on Gaza following the October 2023 attack by Palestinian Hamas terrorists.
Trump put the protesters in the form of dangers of foreign policy, who have anti -social and sympathy to Hamas. Protesters, including some Jewish groups, say that the Trump administration incorrectly advocates them for Palestinian rights and criticizes Israel’s functions in Gaza with extremism and antisementism support.
The Trump administration is also trying to deport some foreign protesters and canceled hundreds of visas across the country.
